About CCLIM

The handcart ad board project, CCLIM, is an innovative social enterprise model designed to support the economic independence of elderly waste collectors and improve public perception of their work. This project operates by attaching advertisements to carts used for waste collection, generating ad revenue, which is then distributed to the elderly collectors.

Project Overview

01
Handcart DevelopmentTo address issues with the weight and safety of traditional carts, lightweight and safe carts were developed. These carts are provided to elderly waste collectors free of charge.
02
Ad PlacementAdvertisement boards are attached to the sides of the carts, ensuring exposure even while in motion. This offers a new form of outdoor advertising platform.
03
Revenue DistributionRevenue generated through advertising is paid to the elderly collectors in the form of wages, with a portion allocated for cart maintenance and management.

Social Value of the Project

Economic Support

Elderly waste collectors, whose average monthly income is approximately 240,000 KRW, are provided with additional advertising income to improve their financial stability.
Improving Social Perception

By attaching advertisements to the carts, the project aims to reduce negative stereotypes about elderly waste collectors and boost their self-esteem.

Achievements of the Project

Cart Distribution

To date, 433 elderly collectors across 34 regions nationwide have received free, lightweight, and safe carts.
Wage Payments

Approximately 4.7 billion KRW in wages have been paid to the elderly collectors, providing tangible economic support.

    Takeaways

As a business major, I often pondered how business principles could be applied not only to generate profits and enhance shareholder value but also to create a positive social impact. This line of thinking ultimately led me to the CCLIM project.

Through this project, I gained invaluable experience in business-oriented problem solving, collaborating with various advertisers and welfare organizations, and navigating partnerships. At the same time, I had the opportunity to work closely with elderly waste collectors, a socially vulnerable group, visiting recycling centers weekly to inspect their handcarts and truly understanding their challenges.

This experience taught me the importance of empathy and the need to consider the perspectives of marginalized groups. It solidified my determination to always keep a broad perspective as I move forward, striving to ensure that no one is overlooked in society.
